20% Of U.S. Children Have A Mental Disorder? According to investigators at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, about one in five children in the United States suffer from a mental disorder. This results in nearly $247 billion per year spent on medical expenses, juvenile justice, and special education.

Even Low Levels Of Air Pollution Can Cause Lung Cancer. Long-term exposure to even low levels of air pollution increases the risk for lung cancer. A recent study shows that the risk of lung cancer increased in Europe over the past decade even though air pollution levels were cleaner than the air quality standards set by the European Union.

Norway Issues Warnings About Farm Raised Salmon. The Norwegian Health Department has issued new recommendations to women of childbearing age or who are pregnant to limit farmed salmon to a maximum of two meals per week due to potential toxicity.

An Hour of Exercise Is Not Enough For Boys. A recent study is the first to look at the link between children's physical activity and cardiovascular risk. Researchers determined risk by looking at blood pressure, cholesterol, and skin fold testing results from 3000 children under the age of 10. The study revealed that boys less than 6 years of age need more than 70 minutes of moderate-to-vigorous exercise per day and older boys need at least 80 minutes. Girls of all ages need approximately 60 minutes of exercise.

Spinal Adjustments vs. Epidural Injections. A recent study compared the effectiveness of epidural injections to chiropractic adjustments in patients with a lumbar disk herniation. Of the chiropractic patients, 76% reported feeling “better” or “much better” after treatment, compared to 62.5% of the injection patients. 60% of chiropractic patients had significant reductions in pain, compared to 53% of injection patients.
