Small Elliptical Exercise Device Promotes Activity While Sitting. If you sit a lot at work, there may be an easy way to burn some calories to help you maintain your weight. Researchers found that 86% of the participants were able to expend enough energy in just one hour a day to stop weight gain. The author of the study believes that daily use of a device like this for one hour could result in a weight loss of 5.2 pounds (~2.4 kg) per year and help prevent the annual one- to two-pound (.45-.9 kg) weight gain common among adults in the United States.

Your Body Will Age Better if You Enjoy Life. A new study claims that individuals who enjoy life have better physical function and faster walking speeds than people who are more pessimistic. The study found that people who had a low sense of well-being were more than three times as likely to experience problems in performing daily activities. Study co-author Dr. Steptoe explains, "Our results provide further evidence that enjoyment of life is relevant to the future disability and mobility of older people. Efforts to enhance well-being at older ages may have benefits to society and health care systems."
